#IWSG: The universe has spoken

The first Wednesday of every month is the Insecure Writer's Support Group. Posts go up the 1st Wednesday of every month. Check it out here and join if you need support with your writing. Don't forget to stop by and say hi to the co-hosts: PK Hrezo, Cathrina Constantine, PJ Colando, Kim Lajevardi, and Sandra Cox!

August 4 question - What is your favorite writing craft book? Think of a book that every time your read it you learn something or you are inspired to write or try the new technique. And why?

I'm going to skip this question because I want to focus on the support I got last month. I talked about how behind I felt and like I had lost time because of my chronic pain. So many of you had words of encouragement and a lot of posts I visited that day often talked about how sometimes they had to set writing aside because of life or how it was okay not to write or be productive. It really felt like the universe was flashing a giant sign at me. It was comforting.

It's why I love this group so much.

Seriously, without the support I get from other writers, I'm not sure if I'd still be writing. Stubbornness is a decent motivator, but that only carries me so far. Having others who have my back, give encouragement, and advice works much better. I love talking with everyone. As an anti-social introvert that really says something! I will be ever grateful for Alex for creating this group and I'm happy it's still going strong.

Editing on Aug 3rd to add:
I realized August 1st was 6 month since my surgery. Things are so much better now. I feel like I get to live again and not just surviving the day. My life now has two stages: before surgery and after surgery.

Sometimes you really do need the support of other writers. We see our first drafts while we only see everyone else's final drafts. It's good to know you're not the only one who isn't cranking out the writing all of the time.

Signed up!

We need the encouragement of other writers or we'll end up with comparisonitis!

I love IWSG!
Congratulations on being six months out from that awful surgery! I hope every day brings more strength and energy for you.
I think I signed up. Oy. I don't remember. I do know I have a review copy that needs a review. I'll get back to work on that.

I love IWSG too. Since 2014, when I joined this group, I've never missed a post day, and the other members' encouragement and support have always made me feel better.

I signed up to lend a hand. I can review later, but right now I'm on that writer overload, so couldn't say yes. If you'd like a blog post, let me know. I'm glad to give you a guest slot.

I've followed you all through this difficult phase of your life and, mainly, I'm full of admiration for your tenacity and your creativity in getting through it. But yes, I too thank Alex for the group. It's a real help, even when you're relatively up, as well!

So glad to hear about the positive progress. I can tweet about the release.

Questions: Do you ever put "Easter Eggs" in your books -- those little references that mean something special to you or your fans? Do you ever use real people as the basis for characters? What's one thing you know now that you wish you beginner-writing self knew? Hope these help! If not -- ignore. :)

So happy to hear you are better. Chronic pain is the worst. I had years of it, so I can relate how it zaps you from wanting to create anything. I love this group as well. I have been a member since its inception. Sharing our ups and downs and giving and receiving advice, is so soothing and enriches our lives... stay safe and take care, Patricia!

Yes, the support is so comforting when you're in a low place, and it really can help you reflect and put a different perspective on things. Amazing group. Glad to hear you're doing better now.

I think I might have signed up for your release before, but I did so again for good measure.
